Visa and Passport Requirements

If you are thinking of visiting India, then being a Foreign National, a valid Indian Visa is mandatory. A passport is also required with validity for six months from date of departure. Both these things are must. In India there is no such provision called 'Visa on Arrival' and you are required to obtain your Visa in your resident country before you leave.

There are different Types of Visas:

* Tourist Visa – If visiting as a tourist
* Business Visa - If coming to India for business purpose.
* Student Visa – If coming to India for studies.
* Transit Visa - For passengers going to other destination through India.
* Employment Visa – If coming to work in India.

Top 5 - Not To Do Things in India

1. Do not wear revealing cloths - what's important is, you keep your legs covered (particularly in rural areas). One should cover their legs and shoulders while visiting temples in India.

2. Do not drink tap water. Use boiled water. Its better to purchase bottled mineral water which is easily available in shops and restaurants. Always look for a sealed bottle.

3. Do not wear your shoes inside temples or mosque. Remember it's a prerequisite here in India, before you enter temple or mosque.

4. Do not touch people or any thing (particularly books) with your feet. If its done accidentally, you should apologize for that.

5. Do not eat unpeeled fruit. You should wash it properly and peel fruit yourself before eating.

I have a child living in India ( well she's grown up now ) she goes back and forth to Paris, I worry that India is not particularly safe. Should I? but it is a fascinating country.
